The Implementation of Protection Policies for Migrant Workers in Subang Regency

Abstract

The problem of migrant workers in Subang Regency is like an iceberg phenomenon, where the problems that appear to the surface are a small part of the many problems revealed. On average, migrant workers from Subang Regency who experience problems are nonprocedural migrant workers. The lack of socialization is allegedly the cause of the rise of nonprocedural migrant workers.The government, in this case the Manpower, Transmigration, Energy and Mineral Resources Office of Subang Regency is required to have a strong enough commitment to overcome these problems considering that the protection of migrant workers is the authority and mandate of Government Regulation Number 59 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers. This study aims to analyze the extent of policy implementation on the protection of migrant workers in Subang Regency.The approach in this study is a descriptive study through interviews, observations and documentation studies. The results showed that the implementation of policies on the protection of migrant workers in Subang Regency has not been effective. Several efforts have been made by the Regional Government of Subang Regency to improve services related to the placement of migrant workers through LTSA-P2PMI seems to have not been in line with expectations, as evidenced by the widespread practice of brokering and the lack of socialization, especially for people who have the potential to become prospective migrant workers. The aspect of policy derivation or policy derivatives in the form of regional regulations that specifically regulate protection for migrant workers in Subang Regency is needed as a form of local government commitment in implementing this policy
